We've all heard it before: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Research shows that eating breakfast may help with weight loss, improve brain performance and can lower the risk of heart disease and obesity. But between getting ready for work, early gym workouts, and prepping the kids for school, it can sometimes feel as though we're too short on time for a morning meal. Don't fret, we have solutions for every situation.

These quick and simple breakfast ideas will fuel you up for the day:

Slow-cooker: Prep your breakfast the night before. Use your slow-cooker to make steel-cut oatmeal that cooks overnight. When your family wakes up, all you need to do is scoop and serve with desired fixings and toppings.

Lactose-intolerant: For those who are lactose-intolerant, make ahead a pitcher of almond milk for this quick and easy quinoa porridge, or try this soy-based shake for breakfast-on-the-go.

Weekend cooking: Spend a weekend afternoon cooking up batches of maple and candied-ginger granola or our 10-min pecan cranberry granola for a week's worth of breakfasts (or bring some to school and/or work as a midday energy booster).

Eggs: A great lean protein is eggs, and they don't take long to cook. Try them soft-boiledscrambled, or even - yes - microwaved (ready in just one minute!). Sandwich it with a toasted English muffin and fresh tomato slices, and take it to go.
