Slow cooked oatmeal is the original comforting stick-to-your ribs breakfast. Use any combination of dried fruit, nuts and seeds, and feel free to skip the milk (just stir in some extra water after the oats are cooked).

Ingredients

  • 2 cups steel-cut oats

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

  • 8 cups water

  • 1 cup milk, (dairy or plant-based)

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup chopped pitted dates

  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries

  • 1/2 cup toasted sunflower seeds, or chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  • COMBINE oats with salt, cinnamon and nutmeg in slow cooker insert. Stir in water. Cover and cook for 8 hours on low.

  • STIR in milk, sugar, dates and cranberries. Scoop into bowls and sprinkle with seeds or walnuts.

  • Kitchen note: Our slow cooker recipes are developed with a 7L slow cooker.
