The New York Times Called Katy Perry’s Boyfriend Stylish—And We Have Questions

The New York Times list of “The 39-ish Most Stylish People of 2026, So Far” has arrived, and honestly, we have questions.

Among the incredible mishmash of names making the cut is Justin Trudeau, who has essentially rebranded as Katy Perry’s Instagram boyfriend. The publication notes that through “Perry’s social media lens,” Trudeau looks like just another IG beau, which is a very poetic way of saying: a handsome white guy in a backwards cap, white shirt and jeans.

Trudeau isn’t the only Canadian making the roster. Justin Bieber also earned a spot, thanks in part to a pair of satiny lavender boxer shorts covered in crystal patches from his own brand, Skylrk, worn during his 2026 Grammy performance of “Yukon.” The Times saw the Bieber-fied boxers as a reflection of his evolving public image: part vulnerable pop star, part savvy entrepreneur.

And then workout jeans apparently entered the chat. Perhaps U.S. Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr. took one too many “ditch the polyester” headlines to heart and decided the future of fitness was… denim?

Other unexpected additions to the list included controversial looksmaxxing influencer Clavicular, every single pregnant woman in the Trump sphere (???) and—for a hot minute, at least—former Venezuelan ruler Nicolás Maduro, who was photographed donning a Nike tracksuit during his extradition. (He was later removed from the list for unknown reasons.)

Maybe the Times is onto the next era of fashion: where the outfit matters less than the cultural lore behind it. Or maybe we’ve all been bamboozled into debating whether a former prime minister in a white shirt and jeans is a style connoisseur—and, well, here we are.
