Justin Trudeau was living his teenage dream this weekend—backwards cap and all—and Katy Perry recorded it on Instagram for posterity.
Perry and the former PM were at Coachella this weekend catching a performance by Justin Bieber at the popular celeb-favoured arts and music fest in California. (It's been a busy 72 hours for the pair, who started dating last summer; on Friday they attended a Netflix party alongside the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, among others.)
The "Teenage Dream" singer, who has featured boyfriend Trudeau frequently on her social media over the past month, posted a carousel of videos and images documenting the weekend to her more than 200 million followers on Sunday.
There are short clips of Perry staring into the distance and itemizing her must-haves for the event (Balenciaga shades, trail mix, Zicam cold remedy and hand sanitizer, if you're curious). There's even a recording of her and Trudeau swaying to Bieber's performance while holding red takeout cups.
There are photos of the pair, too, of course. If you didn't know it was Perry and Trudeau, the images could easily be mistaken for a photo of two teenagers taking in their first concert together.
One shot, taken from behind, shows the duo walking hand in hand through the festival grounds. Trudeau, 54, is wearing a blue Montreal Alouettes cap backwards and is dressed, '90s Fred Durst-style, in light denim jeans and a white tee. Perry, 41, is wearing short-shorts, a fitted white tee and a low-slung backpack.
Another image shows Trudeau and Perry sitting together at the event. Trudeau, who apparently got GQ magazine’s memo that the fitted backwards baseball cap has gotten its “swagger back”, is smiling and eating a box of noodles with chopsticks as Perry snacks beside him.
Trudeau’s choice of chapeau even got the nod from the social media manager of the Montreal Alouettes. The Canadian Football League's team replied to Perry's post by tagging Trudeau:
“Love the hat choice,” their social media account commented on the post. “We have to get you some merch, Katy Perry.”
Is there a CFL game in the couple's future? Only time—or Perry's IG grid—will tell.
