under-fire

I finally have furniture, clothing, and a home, but I can't help but feel like something is missing.

A little getaway to another part of our beautiful country taught me that fear does not control me. This past week, I took a trip out to Canmore and Calgary, allowing Mark a little space in our house and some time to himself, which is vital after months in Afghanistan where he never had a moment to himself.

As I'm sure you all know, the most helpful assistance in getting through hard times or illness is to surround yourself with friends and family. Sadly, I don't have any here in Vancouver. Thankfully, my friend Chris from Kingston, who I happen to believe might have been my brother in another life, sent out an email to all the friends he has in Vancouver and asked if someone would take pity on me and be my friend. A lovely woman named Georgie was the only one to answer that email.

When you're injured, especially in the military, sometimes you need a reminder that you are defined by more than just your job and your size.

A year has passed since my very first post for Under Fire. It is now time that I move on in my writing career, so I am saying goodbye to Chatelaine.com and Under Fire, but I know it won't be easy.
