It’s not that my daughter doesn’t like my boyfriend — she really does. She just hates when he sleeps over, because what she doesn't like is not sleeping with me.

Not everyone can afford a plane ticket or has a cottage — but even if we can buy a flight, or do have the opportunity to go away, sometimes we just don’t want to. There's the line-ups at the airports, getting through security, not to mention the cost.

Three months ago, one of my very good friends got a great job opportunity at a newish company. The problem is not with the company, or her job (which she loves), but with the fact that she is the boss. All the employees were there before she became their boss, and it's making the new role difficult for her.

I like to sit beside my boyfriend when we go out for dinner. I think I’m only getting more romantic as I get older. Recently, we headed out for dinner and the server directed us to a table of two. So, of course, my boyfriend moved his chair from across the table next to mine. The server said we couldn’t do this, because, well, we just couldn’t. “But we’re in love,” I said, batting my eyelashes. “We like sitting beside each other.” It didn’t work.

I have a theory about why I’m so unmotivated these days. For some reason, every summer since I graduated university, an overwhelming lack of motivation hits me. I am neither motivated to work (which I have and want to do), or go to the gym (which I should and want to do), or even make plans (which is just pathetic).
