To some, the term “gluten-free” is a catchall for cutting out carbs from their diet. But for others, it’s a real, everyday necessity owing to Celiac disease and other digestive issues. For lunch and dinner, eating gluten free can mean anything from a nice piece of fish and salad, to a steak and potatoes. Easy peasy. But when you have children in the mix and they want the same gooey mac and cheese that their sibs or friends are eating, that can be a problem. The same goes when they want a special birthday cake with all the fun and fixin’s.
Thankfully, help is on the way. An amazing pop-up market called Gluten Free Garage is dishing out a heaping portion of tummy love on Sunday, November 11 from 10am to 4pm at Artscape Wychwood Barns in Toronto. There will be samples, shopping, information – and inspiration from over 40 gluten-free vendors. Tickets are $10 at the door.
Here at Chatelaine we’re into gluten-free goodies too, so here’s a roundup of some of our favourite gluten-free recipes.
