It's that time of year again when Marie Kondo and her acolytes fill our social media feeds with tips to tidy, declutter and organize. To help with your spring cleaning ritual, we found great deals on everything from floor cleaners and scrubbers to practical storage solutions. It's a great time to save money before the big cleaning and organizing spree. (And be sure to check out our hacks for cleaning every room in the house.)
The Bissell Little Green portable carpet and upholstery cleaner does the trick nicely on minor messes, whether it's stains, spills or paw prints. It’s light enough to haul around the house and out to your car. Need more proof? Our editor-in-chief owns this gadget and loves it. We also appreciate that a portion of every purchase goes to the Bissell Pet Foundation and its mission to save homeless pets.
This spin mop system features a dual-chamber bucket so dirty water flows down, giving you a clean mop head each time. The hands-free rinsing is a bonus thanks to the bucket’s built-in wringer. The triangular mop head rotates 360 degrees for navigating corners, under furniture, along baseboards and between titles. It's reusable and washable, and this system comes with one extra mop head. This microfibre mop also doubles as a duster when dry.
If you'd rather skip the mop and bucket system, the Swiffer PowerMop is the way to go. The mop pad contains hundreds of scrubbing strips for a more thorough clean. The kit comes with the spray mop, two mop pad refills, a scented floor cleaning solution and two batteries. This lightweight mop is easy to manoeuvre, with a large swivel head that reaches under furniture and a locking feature for cleaning baseboards.
When cleaning calls for some elbow grease, a good old fashioned scrub brush is the answer. The contoured handle absorbs the pressure from scrubbing and a soft non-slip grip keeps it from sliding out of your hand. The stiff and durable bristles can tackle nearly any mess, whether it's stubborn dirt, grime, mildew or soap scum.
There are lots of upsides to using naturally derived cleaning products, including for our health and that of the planet. That’s why we love Canadian brand The Bare Home—their cleaning products are plant-powered and scented with essential oils. This kitchen bundle includes the company’s lemon and tea tree all-purpose cleaner and bergamot and lime dish soap, including reusable glass bottles and refills. (And if you want to learn more about natural cleaning products, see our Ultimate Guide.)
Part of the joy of spring cleaning is getting your stuff organized. We like these transparent storage boxes with lids. At 50 litres, you can pile in the fall sweaters and boots for safe storage or any other items you don’t need on the daily. The brand makes these sturdy containers in a variety of sizes from 6L up to 80L, so you can find the right size for whatever needs storing.
Optimize your kitchen storage with this drawer organizer for your spices and seasonings. Made from 2-mm-thick clear acrylic, you can easily adjust the width by sliding the organizer to suit the space. It holds between 24 and 48 4-ounce spice jars (these are not included). The organizer comes in 2- and 4-tier styles, depending on your needs and drawer space.
Solve cluttered cutlery with this chic bamboo adjustable tray. The tray expands for increased storage capacity, with 5- and 7-slot versions offered in three finishes. While great for the kitchen, we also think this could be storage for crafting supplies, makeup brushes or bathroom items (We're all for creatively repurposing things!).
Store blankets, throw pillows, kids toys or laundry with this oversized basket. Made from woven rope and designed with sturdy handles, this basket comes in generous 65- and 85-litre capacities. With ten colour combinations including solids and tricolours, you're bound to find one that suits your decor.
If you have a small bathroom and more toiletries than you have room for, this clever shelving unit can save the day. It uses the space over your toilet and keeps your essentials easily accessible. This bathroom unit features three-shelves, a metal storage basket, a toilet paper holder and metal towel hooks. The X-shaped bar at the back lets you adjust the height to suit your space. Choose between four finishes.
We love furniture that's stylish and multifunctional, like this storage bench. The vintage frame has three drawers and three wicker baskets that slide in and out. Place it in the entryway for putting your shoes on before heading out the door or use it as extra seating for guests. Tip: You may want to place a pad on top to make the seating comfier. Crafted from solid pine, this bench comes in four neutral finishes.
This handy utility cart has plenty of uses, whether for your kitchen, bathroom, home office or garage workshop. Designed with a solid steel frame and heavy-duty casters, this rolling cart is built to last. The three-tier design includes a top basket with built-in hanging hooks. There eight colour choices available ranging from dark neutrals to cheerful brights.
If your entryway or bedroom is cluttered with shoes, this storage cabinet might be the answer. We love the coastal look of the rattan panels and the ledge for storing smaller items like your house keys or mail. The two shelves hold 16 pairs of shoes and are height adjustable to accommodate boots too. Caveat: One reviewer said it doesn't fit men's size 12 shoes—however, there's some space beneath the cabinet to store a few larger pairs. Get this attractive and functional piece in dark brown (pictured above), light brown or black.
We had to sneak in one more storage basket—this one has a more rustic, high-end look to it. This woven basket is meant to be shown off, whether you use it as bedroom or living room storage. Made from braided seagrass, each basket is uniquely handmade with rounded handles. We're partial to this natural finish, but there are three other colours and three capacities to choose from.
