1. La Grotta del Formaggio is a legendary sandwich shop whose name translates loosely as “the cheese cave.” “Stop in for a gigantic grilled focaccia piled high with smoked meats, zippy spreads and, of course, the best cheese.” 1791 Commercial Dr., 604-255-3911.

2. Get your fabric fix at Dream Designs. “It’s one of the best spots for eco-friendly and sustainable prints. Their organic cotton bedding and pyjamas guarantee you sleep peacefully for all the right reasons.” 956 Commercial Dr., Dream Designs.

3.If you’re looking for coffee that’s strong enough to wake you at any hour, Abruzzo Cappuccino Bar has the answer. “When there’s a European soccer match on, you may have to battle a few grandpas for that latte, but it will be worth it for the people-watching alone—you’ll spot some characters that look straight out of The Godfather.” 1321 Commercial Dr., 604-254-2641.

4. For charming one-of-a-kind finds, look no farther than Attic Treasures 4 . “It’s the best place to score some mid-century modern furniture and those little vintage tchotchkes you really don’t need but just can’t live without.” 944 Commercial Dr., 604-254-0220.

5. Treat yourself to fun or flirty retro trinkets at Little Miss Vintage 5 . “I make sure to visit every time I’m in Vancouver. They specialize in high-quality, hard-to-find pieces, like the cherry-red clutch I picked up there a few years ago and have rarely put down since!” 941 Commercial Dr., Little Miss Village.
