Sadie Soverall and Matt Cornett play Percy and Sam in Every Year After.
Ever Since Carley Fortune’s debut novel, Every Summer After, was published in 2022, it just hasn't been summer without a new Fortune novel to devour on the dock.
This summer, there's even more to look forward to.
The Toronto-based, New York Times-bestselling author’s fifth novel, Our Perfect Storm, lands on shelves in May. The love story—already one of our favourite books of the year—features a passionate will-they-or-won’t-they pairing that centres on two childhood friends, Frankie and George, who wind up going on Frankie’s ill-fated honeymoon together after she gets jilted on the eve of her wedding.
Then, on June 10, the streaming adaptation of Fortune’s first book, Every Summer After, premieres on Prime Video. All eight episodes of Every Year After—a love story set in Ontario cottage country—will drop in one go, which means viewers have the option to consume the series in tasteful portions or in one weekend-long binge. (We're leaning toward the latter.)
Even better, another Fortune adaptation is already in the works. In March, Netflix Canada announced it bought a 10-episode series of her 2024 release, This Summer Will Be Different, that will be set in both Toronto and Prince Edward Island.
Fortune (who, once upon a time, was an editor at Chatelaine) just might be giving Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan a run for his money in the expanding universe department. Let Texas have Sheridan, however: Fortune’s novels are giving some of Canada’s most picturesque locales the onscreen love they deserve.
Go, Carley!
