under-fire

Yesterday, I went to speak to the kids of Howick Elementary school, to talk to them about what it is to be in the military and why Remembrance Day is so important. They were so welcoming, kind, inquisitive and sweet-natured. Today, in the aftermath of losing Duncan, I wish I could be surrounded by them again.

We all know the military loves rules! Most of these rules are in place in order to protect, guide and lead our soldiers. Not even your hair is left sacred! But for a girl who loves highlights, layers and colour, these rules can be that much more difficult to live by, even if you know the reasoning behind them.

Today, I took the nuclear iodine for my thyroid scan tomorrow. I guess that I'm officially radioactive.

After a month off work following my knee surgery, I'm back to work today. And it felt very strange to don that uniform again. For a moment, I had a taste of what life would be like without it.
