I’m not sure if it was because it was, finally, a celebrity wedding where the two “stars” genuinely seemed in love – or if it was something far more profound.

After blogging for the better part of the last four months about every aspect of tomorrow’s royal wedding – from the Kate Middleton country bus tour, to my cherished Kate and Harry mug and the betting line on who will be the first celebrity guest to shed a tear (bet on David Beckham) – you would think that I might have reached my limit and just want to be done with the whole darn thing. To my great surprise, however, I’m more excited about tomorrow than ever!!

There is no one who does pomp, circumstance and spectacle better than the English. And the reason seems to be: practice, practice, practice. In the very early hours of Wednesday morning thousands of soldiers, sailors (and candlestick makers?) took part in a full-scale dress rehearsal for the royal wedding. I spent the long weekend at a friend’s house in Shropshire (try to say that one three times fast) and lounging by the pool at Shoreditch House in east London. It was three solid days of balmy sunshine and to say that the weather was unusual for late April would be a gigantic understatement. It almost never happens.

As I rode my bicycle through central London today, I noticed a strange thing – there was a lot less traffic than usual. Of course it was still a bit hairy avoiding the double-deckers and the ever-growing glut of foreign tourists hanging outside the Buckingham Palace (watching various groups of guards, horsemen, construction workers building a media stand), but the rest of London was quiet – a little too quiet.
