Support Canada's bees and look chic doing it. Burt's Bees Canada has teamed up with Canadian designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran of Pink Tartan to create a limited edition, Canadian-made tee. For each one sold, Burt’s Bees and Wildlife Preservation Canada will plant 10,000 wildflowers, supporting bee health and sustainability.
Every year, Caudalie donates one percent of its sales to nonprofit organizations that work to protect the environment (like the WWF, where they helped preserve 52,000 hectares of forests on Sumatra), through 1% For The Planet. This Earth Day, treat yourself to their signature Organic Grape Water, a refreshing and soothing facial mist perfect for sensitive skin.
Caudalie Limited Edition Organic Grape Water, $14.
Featuring an original illustration of a smiling beluga by Canadian Oliva Mew, this limited edition version of Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado will look adorable on your vanity. It'll also help Canada's beluga whales! Sales from every purchase of this hydrating eye cream will be used by Kiehl's to adopt 350 belugas as part of the Canadian Wildlife Federation's Adopt a Species program, as well as support the Canadian Marine Animal Response Alliance.
Kiehl's Limited Edition Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, from $36.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Body Shop. To celebrate, they've launched their Enrich Not Exploit campaign, re-establishing their commitment to their people, products and the planet. To kick things off, the cult-favourite Hemp Hand Protector is available in a limited edition package designed by street artist Ben Eine. For every one purchased, The Body Shop will donate three dollars to protect and enrich either the planet, the oceans or people and animals (you get to pick when you purchase!).
Refill your products
Top up your favourite L'Occitane product with an Eco-Refill — they use 80 percent less packaging than if you were to replace it with a brand new one. Bonus: From now until April 24, when you buy a regular sized product an Eco-Refill is 50 percent off.
L'Occitane Eco-Refills, $18 to $42.
Plant a tree
It doesn't matter which Éminence product you purchase or when you do it — they plant a tree for every product sold through their Forest for the Future initiative (in fact, they recently reached five million trees planted!). Our pick is the new Rosehip Triple C + E Firming Oil, a non-irritating, non-greasy daily facial oil with rosehip oil, sea buckthorn oil, rosemary leaf extract, milk thistle and anti-aging superstars Vitamins A, C and E.
Éminence Rosehip Trip C + E Firiming Oil, $110.
Give clean water (and use less yourself!)
When you buy Aveda's Shampure Dry Shampoo this month you're helping twice: First, you're supporting their clean water initiatives (among them, donating annually to WaterAid) and second, you're using less water yourself, by rocking day two (or three) hair with the plant-based, non-aerosol powder. You can also book an appointment at select Aveda salons for April 25, the day of their annual “Appointments for Clean Water" — the funds from all regular services will be donated to WaterAid.
Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo, $39.
Go for zero packaging
Love bath bombs but don't have a bath? Lush has solved this problem with their new Emotibombs, made specifically for the shower. Simply place it on the floor and when the hot water hits it, a blend of essential oils will release and surround you (this one contains an uplifting blend of lemon, lime and grapefruit oils). The best part? They're free of packaging! While you're at it you might also want to pick up a Charity Pot — 100 percent of the proceeds of these body lotions go to grassroots charities focused on environmental, animal and social issues.
Lush Up You Gets Emotibomb, $6.
