While you've got New Year's resolutions on your mind, why not turn your attention to your makeup bag? Got a few half-empty tubes of BB cream? A whack of eyeshadows you never use? We'll bet your morning beauty routine is also in need of some streamlining. As such, we consulted Toronto-based makeup artist Diana Carreiro for her tips on how to refresh your cosmetic regime in 2016. Four steps, six products and you're out the door.

1. Ace your base.

Start by applying a double-duty tinted moisturizer to hydrate and even out skin tone. If you need additional coverage, try a pen concealer to quickly brighten the areas under the eyes and around the nose.

Try: Mary Kay CC Cream Complexion Corrector Cream Sunscreen SPF 15, $22; Clinique Airbrush Concealer, $26.

2. Get the glow.

Using a big fluffy brush, add dimension to cheeks, forehead and chin with a time-saving blush-and-bronzer duo.

Try: CoverGirl Clean Glow Blush, $8.

3. Do your eyes with ease.

Apply a creamy long-wear pencil to lids and blend up to the crease. (Pro tip: Using universally flattering neutral tones like taupe or warm brown will help minimize any application mistakes.) Finish by applying a curling mascara to lashes.

Try: NUDESTIX Magnetic Eye Color, $28; Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, $34.

4. Create a lasting lip look.

A liquid lip formula is easy to apply, long-lasting and doesn't require liner. Mwah!

Try: Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor, $12.
