So you've finished the last of the day's busywork, your ride is set to arrive in five minutes and you're still at your desk with not a lick of makeup on. Whether you're headed to a swanky soiree or a much-needed night on the town with girlfriends, these tips from makeup artist Diana Carreiro will take you from work to play in mere minutes.

1. Basic base Start your day with a neutral, polished look that you can easily update for evening — champagne or taupe shadow, lightly bronzed cheeks and a dusty rose lip.

2. Dramatic eyes Aim for a slightly understated wing using a shiny black liner for classic drama. Create the flick by following the trajectory of your bottom lash line, then connect the tip to the inner corner of your eye and fill in.

3. Instant glow Highlight the high points of your face — cheek and brow bones, inner corners of the eyes, bridge of the nose and Cupid's bow — with a powder or cream for an ethereal sheen.

4. Bold lips If you've got time for nothing else, a deep, matte red or berry lip will make a big impact all on its own.
