Your next challenge is...French onion soup!

This is one of our favourite comfort foods, and preparing it in the slow cooker makes it that much easier.

Our cooking club features one great recipe for the entire month, including a prize for the best photo entry. So spread the word to all your friends – with nearly a month to enter, fitting a new recipe onto the menu will be a breeze.

January's challenge: Slow cooker French onion soup

When it's wintry outside, nothing's more warming than classic French onion soup. Now that we've figured out how to caramelize onions in the slow cooker, this is officially our easiest version ever. So stir up a batch and then get out your toboggans, skates and skis and hit the great outdoors – coming home to this soup will be downright delicious.

Don't have a slow cooker? No problem. We have provided instructions so you can participate with a delicious stovetop version.

Get creative! Don't shy away from colour (we love the aqua soup bowl on our front cover), and experiment with different angles when taking your photo. Presentation adds a lot to your shot – and will make the soup extra-impressive when served.
