13 Going on 30

Synopsis: When a geeky teen’s birthday party goes awry and she makes a wish that she could be 30, she wakes up to discover she’s flash-forwarded 17 years. Cast: Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: This movie strikes the perfect balance between coming-of-age and romance. From that epic “Thriller” dance number to the throwback fashion (re: butterfly clips and scrunchies), you might even get nostalgic while fangirling over Jenna Rink (Garner) and Matt Flamhaff’s (Ruffalo) seriously sweet love story.


How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Synopsis: A player bets his co-workers he can make a woman fall in love with him in just 10 days. But he bets on the wrong girl — a writer with her own agenda. Cast: Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey, Kathryn Hahn Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: As much as we love this early aughts flick for Matthew McConaughey’s irresistible charm and the on-screen couple’s crazy chemistry, we live for the film’s GIF-worthy moments (Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) is *the* most relatable rom-com lead of all time — there, we said it)

When in Rome

Synopsis: After fishing out coins from a water fountain in Italy, cynical New Yorker Beth Harper finds herself being wooed by several ardent suitors. Cast: Kristen Bell, Josh Duhamel, Danny DeVito Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: We can *all* relate to Beth’s “I’ve given up on love” attitude, but watching her fall in head over heels for a v. attractive stranger (Duhamel) at her sister’s wedding in the romantic city of Rome still makes our hearts flutter. This rom-com is just the right amount of hilarious and heartfelt, which is why it’s one of our faves.

Notting Hill

Synopsis: A chance encounter brings together reserved bookstore owner William Thacker and Hollywood icon Anna Scott, who forge an improbable romance. Cast: Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: Hugh Grant. ‘Nuff said. His British accent, baby blues and swoon-worthy smile are reason enough to binge this feel-good rom-com. Plus, watching Anna (Roberts) say to William (Grant), “I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her” gets us every. damn. time.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting

Synopsis: This star-studded rom-com follows the intersecting lives of several couples who hazard the ups and downs of pregnancy and impending parenthood. Cast: Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Anna Kendrick, Elizabeth Banks, Rebel Wilson Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: Even if you aren’t preggo, you’ll appreciate these all-too-real representations of what being a mom-to-be really looks like (and trust, it’s not all that glamorous). From adoption to miscarriage and unexpected pregnancy, this celeb-packed rom-com *delivers* on laughs, love and (of course) labour.

The Big Wedding

Synopsis: A long-divorced couple feigns years of wedded bliss to please a special guest at their son’s nuptials: his birth mother. Cast: Katherine Heigl, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Robert De Niro, Robin Williams Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: Is it even a romantic comedy without an epic roster of A-list celebs? Just look at the cast if you don’t believe us. This film takes a lighthearted, yet seriously honest approach to family drama, marriage and divorce—something that you and your family can cry and laugh your way through, no matter what your love life looks like.

Trainwreck

Synopsis: Single professional Amy fears commitment until she meets the perfect guy. But the harder she falls, the hotter the mess. Cast: Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, Brie Larson Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: The unlikely love story of Amy (Schumer) and Dr. Aaron Conners (Hader) perfectly captures modern dating where one night stands are more ‘normal’ than dinner dates. Also, Schumer—who also wrote the film—is so damn perfect in this movie. She literally has us mouthing “yaaas queen” in every single scene.

When We First Met

Synopsis: Using a magical photo booth that sends him back in time, Noah relives the night he met Avery over and over, trying to persuade her to fall for him. Cast: Adam DeVine, Alexandra Daddario, Shelley Hennig Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: You’ll probably recognize the leads of this lighthearted film —Pitch Perfect’s Adam DeVine and Baywatch’s Alexandra Daddario. And bringing these two together in When We First Met created an under-the-radar cinematic gem that pairs perfectly with a bottle of rosé, some salty snacks and maybe a box of Kleenex cause this flick gets surprisingly emotional.

50 First Dates

Synopsis: After falling for a pretty art teacher who has no short-term memory, a marine veterinarian has to win her over again every single day. Cast: Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Rob Schneider Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: If you’re looking for a romantic comedy that will simultaneously make you laugh and blubber like a newborn baby, this sweet flick is perf for you. Henry Roth’s (Sandler) dedication to Lucy Whitmore (Barrymore) is so refreshing in a world where we can barely even get a potential bae to text us back. You’ll get a whole new appreciation for Sandler and Barrymore as a couple *and* you’ll want to book a flight to Hawaii, stat.


Set It Up

Synopsis: In desperate need of a break from the office, two beleaguered assistants team up to trick their workaholic bosses into falling in love. Cast: Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Lucy Liu, Joan Smalls Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: This quirky, modern rom-com, set in New York City, will make you fall in love with Zoey Deutch and Glen Powell (if you haven’t already) because their comedic and romantic on-screen chemistry is seriously next level. Plus, their shared love of pizza after a drunken night out is serious #relationshipgoals.

The Kissing Booth

Synopsis: When teenager Elle’s first kiss leads to a forbidden romance with the hottest boy in high school, she budding relationship risks her relationship with her best friend. Cast: Joey King, Joel Courtney, Jacob Elordi Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: Let’s just say we wish we had Netflix’s adaptation of Beth Reekles’s classic summer read when we were in high school. Plus, Elle Evans (King) and Noah Flynn’s (Elordi) super romantic kiss in the rain gives us serious The Notebook vibes.

Ibiza

Synopsis: When Harper is sent to Spain for an important work meeting, her hard-partying friends tag along and convince her to pursue a fling with a famous DJ. Cast: Gillian Jacobs, Vanessa Bayer, Phoebe Robinson Streaming: Yes Why you should watch it: If you’re a diehard fan of Bridesmaids (saaaame), this hilarious comedy is exactly what you need for your next girls’ night in. Aside from the smoking hot DJ, Leo West (Madden), and the gorgeous shots of the Spanish seaside, this film strikes gold for it’s laugh-out-loud one-liners from comedy geniuses Gillian Jacobs, Vanessa Bayer and Phoebe Robinson.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Synopsis: Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control when her secret letters to every boy she’s ever fallen for are mysteriously mailed out. Cast: Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, Janel Parrish Streaming: Drops August 17 Why you should watch it: Based on the best-selling novel by Jenny Han, this buzzy teen rom-com will satisfy any romantic-at-heart, whether you’re in high school like Lara (Lana Condor) or not. Condor’s character is so darn loveable and reminds us of the days when we spent math class day dreaming about our crush and doodling their name in our notebooks. It’s safe to say we. are. stoked.
