Last week, Olympic freestyle skiing champ Eileen Gu shared a photo of herself on a chair lift, flanked on either side by former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and former working Royal, Prince Harry.
“This week!” the 22-year-old Chinese-American Olympian enthused in a caption to her four million followers.
The trio were dressed in ski gear and smiling.
It’s not clear if the group were holidaying together or simply happen to bump into each other slope-side and commemorated it with a snapshot. Internet sleuths noted that Prince Harry’s significant other, Meghan Markle, shared a video on her Instagram of Archie and Harry skiing that same week, which suggests the Prince isn’t holidaying solo but that the trip may be a family affair. (Those images also appear to have helped people decide the Gu picture was likely taken at Big Sky Resort in Montana.)
If the photo's backstory remains unknown, Gu, who won gold in the halfpipe freestyle event for China at the recent Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics in February, appears to be pals with the former PM and his pop star girlfriend, Katy Perry.
Gu’s photo was one of a carousel of a dozen-plus pics she shared online and also included a candid snap of her, Trudeau and Perry dressed up for what looks like an evening out (no Prince Harry or Archie in sight, alas). Was the photo taken at the same ski resort? There are mountains visible in the background so it suggests the answer may be yes.
As for what’s got Prince Harry and Trudeau together, the answer may be more straightforward: they're friends. The two have reportedly known each other for many years, and the last time they were seen together was in 2025 when Harry hosted the Invictus Games in Vancouver. During the event, the duo sat together in the stands, laughing and talking, and later posed for selfies with fans.
The six-degrees-of-separation game may be dizzying when it comes to figuring out the intersecting lives of celebrities, athletes, Royals and former political leaders. But after last week's viral appearance in girlfriend Katy Perry's photo carousel, the real fun going forward may be guessing which celebrity photo dump the former PM will pop up in next.
