We Tried it: PC’s The Decadent Muffins

They’re decent—but not exactly decadent.

Canada’s iconic cookie has officially entered its…muffin era? PC’s beloved The Decadent Chocolate Chips now star in two new muffin flavours: Classic Chocolate Chip and Double Chocolate—vowing to blur the line between what’s considered breakfast and dessert.

Team Chatelaine had to find out if the iconic cookie could pull off an encore in its new form. Here’s what we thought.

President’s Choice Double Chocolate Muffin

This one looked promising (don’t they always?) but wasn’t worth the bite. The texture was dry and grainy, while the cocoa flavour leaned bitter and dark rather than rich and indulgent.

For a muffin called decadent, we expected something a lot more chocolate-forward and luxurious.

This was the clear favourite of the pair, with a flavour reminiscent of the Tim Hortons version. The chips deliver but the muffin itself is dense and drops serious crumbs (take it from us and use a plate).

Our biggest nitpick? We wanted more of that OG cookie personality. Imagine, a crisp, crackly muffin top with a soft centre underneath. Instead, this muffin plays it a little too safe. As one editor put it: “They're decent—but not decadent.”

If you’re craving a treat with your morning coffee, the Chocolate Chip version is worth grabbing...once. But if you are already a fan of the PC’s legendary cookie (like we are), we’d argue that this icon does not need a reboot.
