The PC Decadent Chocolate Cookies have been a grocery-store staple for more than 30 years. But with six varieties now lining store shelves, we had one question: does anything beat the OG?

We rounded up every Decadent cookie we could find and had the ultimate taste test. Here’s what we thought.

6. The Decadent Soft Baked

This is an identity crisis in cookie form. From the moment it came out of the package, it felt like odd guy out. Its lumpy top mimics the appearance of an oatmeal cookie, while the texture somehow manages to taste both moist and dry. The overall bite felt closer to a packaged Mrs. Fields cookie with a subtle coconut flavour. This one definitely fell short compared to its buttery peers.

5. The Decadent Peanut Butter Chunk

This flavour combination had the highest expectations, but ended up being a disappointment. Instead of a creamy, nutty peanut butter bite, we were greeted by an overly roasted, oily and slightly metallic taste. Its crumbly texture only added to the flop, although it had a slightly crisper bite than the Reversed cookies.

4. The Reverse Decadent

On paper, a chocolatey cookie loaded with white chocolate chips sounds like a guaranteed score. In reality, the taste fell flat. The cocoa flavour leaned more chalky than, well, decadent. The texture lacked the buttery snap we love in the OG, likely because it’s made with palm oil shortening instead of butter.

3. The Decadent Middle

A good idea that just needed more time in the oven? Unfortunately, the chocolate creme-filled concept promised on the package never quite came together. Instead of a soft, gooey centre, the filling tasted more like a dense, oversized chocolate chip. Several bites later, we were still waiting for that “middle” factor to shine.

2. The Decadent Chocolate Chunk

If any cookie came close to dethroning our champion, it was this one. The generous chocolate chunks made every bite rich and indulgent, but they also sparked the biggest debate of the taste test. Some thought the extra chocolate made it even better than the original, while others felt the chunk-to-cookie ratio was a little overkill. Either way, it lands comfortably in second place.

1. The Decadent Chocolate Chip

Can anything really top the original? Apparently not. The OG was the unanimous favourite of the lineup due to its classic taste, perfect crispiness (thanks to its all-butter recipe) and just-right chocolate-chip-to-cookie ratio. It’s the cookie that has set the standard for more than 30 years, and after one bite, it’s easy to see why.

The only downside? Even Canada’s favourite cookie hasn’t escaped shrinkflation. These cookies have noticeably gotten much smaller over the years, but even at their reduced size, they’re still unbeatable.
