And just like that, New York City’s iconic Magnolia Bakery is making its way to Canada.
The bakery announced this week that it plans to open 10 locations across Ontario, bringing its cult-favourite treats north of the border for the first time. The expansion will be led by franchise partners Chetanshi and Shaishav “Shay” Thakkar, who will oversee the bakery’s Canadian rollout.
The shop celebrated the news on TikTok, posting a carousel of Canadian celebrities—from Céline Dion to Justin Bieber—“enjoying” the sweet treats alongside the caption: “Oh, Canada! The deal is done.”
Founded in New York City’s West Village 30 years ago, Magnolia Bakery began as a neighbourhood shop known for its cupcakes, layer cakes and nostalgic desserts.
While its classic red velvet cupcakes helped put the bakery on the map and even earned a memorable Sex and the City cameo (thank you Carrie and Miranda), its banana pudding has since taken centre stage.
Made with layers of vanilla pudding, sliced bananas and vanilla wafers, the iconic dessert has developed a devoted following with fans often lining up around the block for a taste.
The company has yet to reveal where its Ontario locations will open—or when Canadians can expect their first spoonful of banana pudding on home soil—but we’ll be keeping an eye out.
