Biscoff McPops, the fan-favourite bite-sized donuts, are back for a limited time at McDonald’s—good news for those of us that want a cheap and cheerful bijou sweet treat with our mid-morning coffee.
The McPop, which takes up more pastry real estate than a Timbit (though not by much), delivers a levelled-up twist on the powdered mini donut: It has the powdered donut’s signature dry bake and yummy dusting of icing sugar, but with the added delight of a modest serving of Biscoff cookie butter in the centre. (You get a loonie-sized serving of the cookie spread in each donut.)
The McPop may be a little more dry and more modestly sugared than a grocery-store powdered donut. But the firmer crumb makes it dunk-worthy, and the stable peanut-butter-like texture of the cookie butter means it won't fall apart in your coffee cup.
The Biscoff cookie butter is made from the same mix of sugar, spice and oils that comprise the company’s signature rectangular biscuits. Super-smooth and subtly sweet with just a hint of the caramelized spice of the biscuit that inspired it, it makes a solid complement to the simple powdered donut. Not too sweet, and not too gooey.
At just $1.29 a McPop and clocking in at 120 calories per serving, these two-bite baked goods are something like the goldilocks of mini-donut drive-thru offerings.
The Biscoff McPop is just right—and it’s just right now. This collab, originally added to the McD’s menu last summer, is only available once again until June 23.
