In support of its TImbits Soccer program—which supports more than 250,000 young players each season—the iconic Canadian donut shop has released four new 'Tastes of the Globe' Timbits that are available in stores now for a limited time. (For those with a considerable appetite—or, say, a soccer team to feed—there’sa super-size soccer-themed plastic bucket of 50 Timbits on offer, too.)
The new Timbit flavours run the gamut from kitschy to classic: there’s the Canadian Fireworks, the Chocolate Crème Brûlée, the Lime Cheesecake and the Cappuccino.
Here's the lowdown on the lineup.
This coffee-flavoured vanilla-chocolate-cake hybrid is really aromatic, and not in a good way. Its scent is so strong—quite frankly, it could be a coffee cologne—that it tends to overpower the other Timbits when packed together. You have to really love that International Coffee-inspired scent to love this Timbit, which oddly doesn’t actually taste that much like coffee.

You can’t go wrong with a chocolate Timbit. This variation aims to please with a Venetian cream filling and burnt sugar coating. Fancy French dessert-inspiration notwithstanding, the end result is a pretty straightforward bite. It hits the cream and chocolate beats serviceably, but it’s not a standout flavour.

This vibrant red Timbit is a souped-up version of the popular Birthday Cake. The “fireworks” it promises are likely inspired by the light dusting of popping candy that serves as the sweet coating. Despite the name, there aren’t a lot of flavour fireworks to be had here. This Timbit is super-sweet with an almost strawberry taste profile that is reminiscent of certain Froot-y and Loop-y cereals.

This vanilla-cake Timbit is filled with custardy-lime cheesecake and the exterior cake is coated with lime sugar. After the super-sweet Fireworks, the heavily scented cappuccino and the so-so chocolate crème brûlée, this bright and zesty offering went down as a refreshing palate cleanser and a tasty new iteration. I ate two. I regret neither.
