With so many different ways to enjoy coffee, gift shopping for a caffeine lover can seem like a daunting task. There's simply so much choice! With the right mindset, this can also be a bonus: with so many ways to store, brew and serve your daily caffeine fix, it's always possible to find something new and useful to delight even the most finicky of at-home baristas. Here are some of our favourite picks of the year.

This rich espresso-based syrup packs a powerful caffeinated punch and is excellent for mixing into any kind of drink, with or without alcohol. It also creates a deliciously thick foam when shaken. It’s an excellent choice for espresso martini aficionados, but we can also see it pairing nicely with a splash of amaro, stirred into a hot chocolate, or drizzled overtop a scoop of ice cream.

We’re already fans of Wacaco’s pump-powered Nanopresso, a portable espresso maker designed for camping trips. This chargeable, electric version solves the problem of having to pour boiling water into the receptacle (it heats the water for you) and can customize your brew setting depending on the coarseness of the coffee grind.

Give the gift of locally roasted coffee beans from across the country with a monthly subscription from The Roaster’s Pack; an introductory package can deliver three bags of coffee from small-batch Canadian roasters a month for as little as $30. This hand-cranked coffee grinder is a cult classic among dedicated home baristas, as it consistently turns out an even grind. Its parts come apart and wash easily, it doubles as a storage container for a fresh grind, and is big enough to hold enough grounds for a few days’ worth of coffee, depending on just how much coffee you drink.

We’re fans of Delonghi’s home espresso machines—three members of my own family have them in their kitchens!—but committing to a fully kitted-out version can take up a ton of counter space. The Dedica Duo is a cute, compact manual alternative that turns out a creamy espresso (and cold brew!), is still equipped with a milk steaming wand and comes in a range of fun colours, from rose petal to pistachio. At $350, it’s comparatively budget-friendly compared to its larger counterparts.

Consistently rated as one of the best milk steamers on the market, InstantPot’s MagicFroth can steam and/or froth dairy and plant-based milks into a dense, dreamy foam. Prefer a cold, non-steamed foam? It can make that, too!

Recreate the bold and strongly caffeinated iced and hot coffee drinks at your favourite pho spot with this coffee set from Sitlo, a Canadian coffee company that specializes in Vietnamese blends.
