Winter woes: Easy tips to get rid of static hair!
When it comes to winter gear, I usually look like the Michelin man. Padded with so many layers, I'm bundled up in a hat, scarf, gloves, wool socks, wool sweater, long johns, etc. I just can’t do cute at 15 degrees below. And the biggest problem seems to be my hair. No matter how nice it may look when I leave the house—I mean, I do try—by the end of the day it’s inevitably stuck to my face and standing on end. Static hair is my nemesis.
So, I have compiled these four easy tips for those days you need to calm down an overly electric look:
1. Because cold, dry temperatures dehydrate hair, use a deep conditioner and a leave-in-conditioner to keep your locks extra moisturized.

2. Avoid using too much product, especially ones with harsh chemicals or alcohol, which will only further dry your tresses out—that means skip the hair spray!
3. “Static Guard is the Holy Grail of static prevention,” says Toronto-based makeup and hair artist Diana Carreiro, “spray it on your hairbrush, inside your hat, on your scarf and [in] the collar of your coat.”
4. For a mid-day fix, keep a sheet of fabric softener in your bag and run it over your locks whenever they start to look a little too crazy.
