M.A.C’s new high-tech lipstick is made with colours you can’t see

Still, Style director Vanessa Taylor is into Liptensity's bold shades and smooth long-wearing formula.
MAC Canada Liptensity Lipstick M.A.C Canada's new Liptensity collection.

For the new Liptensity collection, M.A.C enlisted Maureen Seaberg, a tetrachromat expert (she has four cells in her retinas, instead of the typical three, so she can see up to 100 times more colours than you and I), to develop the "high-frequency tetrachromatic" pigments. The result is a dense, long-wearing, satin-finish shades in completely new colours.

I love that the colour stays true from stick to lip with no muddy undertones, which backs up M.A.C's claim that the colour won’t change no matter what your natural lip colour is. The 24-shade collection covers classics like bright pinks and striking red hues that are crisp not garish, as well as on-trend shades like a wearable 90’s taupe brown, burnt orange and even a range of blue/plum shades. Each shade has full colour pay-off (aka instant gratification) upon first swipe. It promises no fading over 8-hours, though mine only lasted until I ate a grilled cheese for lunch. The gel formula stays creamy and doesn’t get chalky or dry out on your lips. Bottom line: is this lipstick revolutionary? Maybe not totally. But finding the right colour, or even better, a brand-new shade, can be pretty life changing.
