It's officially cocooning season, and our latest purchases are all about keeping things comfy and easy. From an easy way to make your shoes more comfortable to a makeup removing cloth that works like magic, here’s what our team bought and loved this month.
“I love my Dr. Martens Sinclair boots (I've worn them pretty much every single day for the past three years), but they don't have any support or cushioning, so my feet get sore and tired very quickly. I invested in a foot massager last year—which I highly recommend, BTW!—and it has helped a lot, but I finally bought pair of affordable foam insoles to see if it would make a difference. It really does!
The insoles can be cut to size with kitchen scissors, and the cushioning is excellent, especially on pressure points like the heel and the ball of the foot. I feel a little silly for not spending that $17 earlier." —Andréanne Dion, senior style and beauty editor
“I'm always up for saving money and ditching single-use products. This reusable, washable cloth promises to remove makeup using only water—and it really works. It takes off my eye makeup and lipstick completely—in fact, it does a better job than my usual makeup remover and a wash cloth. (It's made of polyester, which is a plastic derived from fossil fuels, but it will last for ages so I think it's by far the lesser of two evils!) Plus, it's from a Vancouver-based company, and I love buying Canadian.” —Gillian Grace, deputy editor, digital
“For years, I was dedicated to baths. Bath bombs, oils, salts—anything I could dissolve into a big tub of hot water and soak in. But I don't anymore, in part due to the fact that our full-tub bathroom is next to my kids' bedroom, so I can't run a bath after bedtime without waking them up. So I use shower steamers instead—think of them as little bath-bomb-like bricks that sit in the corner of your shower, releasing an essential oil aroma as they melt away. They're quick, convenient and smell fantastic. I'm partial to this eucalyptus and tea tree blend from Saje.” —Chantal Braganza, deputy editor, food
“When it comes to beauty products, my vanity is in a constant battle with my wish to reduce the amount of single-use plastic packaging in my life. In this case, this lamellar water is so good that my vanity won out. It makes my wavy, dry hair shiny and manageable. When I ran out last month I could see a real—and unfortunate!—difference in my locks.” —Gillian Grace, deputy editor, digital
“I'm a garlic girlie, but sometimes I don’t have a fresh clove on hand. This little jar is now a staple in my kitchen. Made from the fermented flowers of garlic scapes, it’s has the consistency of pesto and better flavour than a jar of chopped garlic. I use it wherever I’d usually use a fresh clove.” —Aimee Nishitoba, art director
