Spring is in the air, so it's no surprise we were itching to give our wardrobes and makeup bags a little refresh this month. From the lightweight foundation our editor-in-chief can't quit to a wide-brimmed hat with built-in sun protection, here’s what our team bought and loved this month.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 Foundation, $65

A bottle of Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint with swatch for an article about the best purchases our editors made in May 2025.

“I've tried countless foundations over the years and this is the only one I continue to buy on repeat. The serum formula is incredibly moisturizing and provides just the right amount of coverage for my reddish skin tone. (I top it off with powder—I know glowy skin is in, but I first started wearing makeup in the all-matte 1990s and some habits are hard to shake.) The scent might not be for everyone, but it's a small price to pay for an otherwise superb product from a Canadian-founded brand.” —Maureen Halushak, editor-in-chief

The Peace Labs Peace Balm Muscle Relief Roll-On in Fresh Rain, $45

A blue roll one Peace Balm in Fresh Rain from The Peace Labs for an article about the best purchases our editors made in May 2025.

“Growing up, my family used muscle relief products like Tiger Balm, A535 and Salonpas, and I have such strong scent memories attached to them. Judy Hughes—the Calgary-based founder of The Peace Labs—grew up with these products too and, looking for natural pain relief after overcoming cervical cancer, she created a muscle relief roll-on in four fresh, modern scents: Eucalyptus, Cedar Mist, Fresh Rain and Lavender.

After a day at Canada's Wonderland, the rollerball applicator made it easy to reach my shoulders and the backs of my arms—which were surprisingly tense after riding the Yukon Striker—without getting any product on my hands. The cooling sensation from the menthol and camphor are soothing, and it's nice to get the same muscle-relaxing perks as with the OG products but with a softer scent.” —Aimee Nishitoba, art director

Tilley Straw Wide Brimmed Sun Hat, $104 (on sale!)

“I am both vain and paranoid about the sun (skin cancer runs in my family) so I always seek out the widest-brimmed hats I can. This one, from the classic Canadian brand, is sturdy and gives great coverage from the sun—the UPF 50 means that it blocks 98 percent of the sun's rays. It also has a tiny pocket on the inside for a key or a card if you want to go hands- and purse-free.” —Gillian Grace, deputy editor, digital

Ine+ Nutrition Marine Collagen, $49 for 30 servings

A jar of Ine+ Nutrition Marine Collagen for an article about the best purchases our editors made in May 2025.

“Let me start by saying that the jury is still out on whether collagen supplements really do anything for your skin, hair, nails or joints. That said, I've been putting collagen powder in my coffee and smoothies on and off for years. I like the ritual of scooping it up and stirring it until it dissolves, and I swear I see a difference in how strong my nails are when I take it. (No such luck on the skin and hair front, sadly.) It's also a great way to slightly boost my protein intake first thing in the morning. I've recently switched to a marine collagen powder by Canadian brand Ine+ Nutrition, and it's the first one I've tried that truly doesn't have an off-putting flavour or chalky, clumpy texture. And it also comes in individually packaged portions, so I can easily pack it when I travel.” —Andréanne Dion, senior style and beauty editor

Tabi Footwear Ballerina Flats, $257

“I do not own a pair of Martin Margiela Tabis, the cult favourite split-toe shoe that has enraptured design students and celebrities alike since the late eighties. But I do, now, own two pairs of Tabi Footwear shoes, a soft, running-shoe style take on this shoe design, which has roots in 15th century Japan. They're so light and extremely comfortable—and while not exactly cheap, they're a quarter of the price of Margiela. I get compliments on them every time I wear them, and I could walk around in them for hours.” —Chantal Braganza, deputy editor, food
