If you're looking for Canadian alternatives to everyday items (think clothing, skincare or home accessories), we've got you covered with our latest homegrown purchases. From a comfy mesh bra that offers a surprising amount of support to a cozy candle that smells just like a campfire, here’s what our team bought and loved this month.
“I’ve been gradually replacing my underwire bras with bralettes—and I'm never going back! Cute and comfortable bralettes are tricky to find, especially at a good price. This Knix mesh bra is pretty, supportive and comfy enough to wear all day. (Note: I’m a 32C, but a larger-chested reviewer said it also offered enough support.) I got it in black, but it also comes in a few other colours, including a cute lilac hue with matching undies.” —Gillian Grace, deputy editor, digital
“I've been a fan of Canadian candle company Lohn's Erde scent for years (it smells just like a fancy hotel lobby!), but I recently discovered a new favourite: Dym. It has notes of cedar, spruce and woodsmoke that perfectly capture the smell of a campfire, without being as overpowering as the real deal. (It also doesn't leave my hair and clothes smelling smoky.) It's the perfect candle for cozying up inside in the dead of winter.” —Andréanne Dion, senior style and beauty editor
“I've long loved Peau de Loup, a Vancouver-based shop that makes button-down shirts especially for non-binary, gender-neutral and queer bodies like mine. The shirts are tailored in a more relaxed, boxy fit that doesn't hug your hips, and they come in any colour or pattern you could dream of. I finally treated myself to this Forest Shade flannel shirt this winter, and I've genuinely never felt so affirmed in clothes before! (Bonus: Most of Peau de Loup's shirts are made with upcycled materials.)” —Erica Lenti, deputy editor, features
“Toronto-based brand The Ordinary is my go-to for affordable skincare. I’ve been using this serum—which contains a high dose of niacinamide, as well as zinc—for the last year, and it has really helped keep my oily skin and acne under control.” —Amy Evans, commerce editorial director
“My sensitive—and let’s be honest, aging—skin freaks out every winter and the only solution is to swear off products with heavy scents and harsh ingredients. This season I turned to a new skincare range from Hello Joyous, whose products are made in Canada, packaged in glass with recyclable plastic lids and feature minimal (and entirely organic) ingredients. The oil-based cleanser, refreshing facial mist and deeply hydrating serum—made from rosehip oil and hyaluronic acid—brought instant comfort to my skin, with zero irritation. (Hello Joyous founder Joy McCarthy developed the product formulas after struggling for years with rosacea and sensitive skin.) I got the bundle, but the products are also sold individually if you’d rather try just one.” —Maureen Halushak, editor-in-chief
“I recently switched to the Canadian-made Nada toothbrush, and I'm genuinely impressed. As someone who’s trying to reduce plastic waste, it checks all the boxes. For just $20, you get the Forever handle and three brush heads. The handle is made from lightweight, aircraft-grade aluminum, which feels sturdy—plus, it's built to last a lifetime. No more tossing the entire toothbrush; I just swap out the head when needed. (The brand provides pre-paid envelopes to send them back for recycling.)” —Sun Ngo, creative director
