Chatelaine’s food editor, Claire, and I had chance to sample some of the world’s finest oysters recently at Starfish Oyster Bed and Grill, including the deliciously meaty Kumamato specially flown in from Jersy Rock, UK. We were celebrating the launch of a new shucking knife developed by Guinness world record-breaking oyster shucker, Patrick McMurray

Not only did we get to watch the master himself demonstrate his ferocious shucking skills (and enjoy the subsequent fruits of labour), but Claire and I also had a chance to pull up our sleeves and get in on the action!

Here’s Patrick giving us some tips and tricks at shucking our first oysters. It’ll definitely take us a while to reach Patrick’s record of 38 oysters per minute! Check out Patrick here for a how-to on shucking oysters.
