An old-fashioned cocktail garnished with an orange slice, ice and a maraschino cherry for a post on the best old-fashioned cocktail recipe

Chatelaine Triple Tested

This oh-so-classic cocktail couldn't be easier to make.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye

  • 1/2 oz simple syrup (recipe below)

  • 2 to 6 dashes Angostura bitters

  • maraschino cherry, to granish

  • slice of orange, to garnish

  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • FILL a lowball glass with ice cubes. Add rye, simple syrup and Angostura bitters. Stir well.

  • GARNISH with maraschino cherry and orange.

  • Simple syrup: Boil 1 cup sugar with 1 cup water in a small pot until sugar dissolves. Store in fridge up to two months.

Cocktail math: 1 oz = 2 tbsp.
