The news: If you're anything like us right now, your bodies are currently mourning the 60 minutes of quality shut-eye we sacrificed to the Daylight Savings gods this weekend. What we'll lose in coffee money this morning, we'll make up in an extra sunshine — glorious sunshine! — but there are measurable physical consequences to that lost hour. Sleep deprivation has been associated with a spike in traffic accidents and pedestrian fatalities, heart attacks, and exacerbated sleep difficulty in those who suffer from insomnia. Daylight Savings isn't a worldwide phenomenon, either — many countries in Africa and Asia, and even areas like Saskatchewan and Hawaii, don't spring forward or fall back, leading many experts to question why we do it at all. In the meantime, we recommend mainlining caffeinated beverages and sprightly, sun-themed playlists. See you in the Starbucks line!
