I picked up a coffee yesterday and noticed that my usual order (a medium-sized cup) cost five cents more than it did last week. Food inflation has definitely hit my coffee shop - but what about other foods?

A few years ago, my sister and her family sold their house in Toronto and moved to a small town about two and a half hours away. They traded city life for a cheaper house, a laid-back lifestyle and more open spaces for their kids to play in. Since my sister and I are really close, she wants us to move out there too.

My husband and I have been talking about getting rid of our car — we live close to a public transit system that can take us pretty much anywhere we need to go. There are also more rental options around us, with Zipcar and Autoshare cars parked all over the place these days.
