West Elm
This season it’s all about charcoal grays, mustard and umber, says Marc Thee, co-owner of the top-ranked interior design firm Marc-Michaels. The easiest way to switch out summer decor for autumn ambiance is with simple accessories. But if you love cool colours like sea glass blue, for example, don’t feel like you have to get rid of it — try pairing it with menswear gray instead of white. Here are three ideas on how to update your décor for the fall.
Origami pillow cover, $35, West Elm.
Change out your pillows and throws for a new look. For warmth and texture, add a cozy throw on a chair in a nice charcoal or cream.
Provence tilework pillow, $68, Altogether Home.
Brinkley mustard pillow, $31, Crate&Barrel.
Herringbone throw, $25, Altogether Home.
Summer scents are light and citrusy, whereas in fall it's all about spicy-woodsy scents. Be careful not to fall into the trap of buying seasonally coloured candles. Even when scented, stick to the cream-coloured candles. Tip: Sandalwood is a scent that works all year round.
Ceramic Suto candle holder, $5, Altogether Home.
Indian sandlewood candles, $10 for 3, Bombay.
Glass blown candle holders, $40, West Elm.

Whether it's groupings of gourds and squashes or a beautiful array of poinsettias, keep the décor abundant, but monochromatic for a clean and sophisticated look. Or go for one statement piece that really speaks to the season.
Branch side table, $204, West Elm.
Swain hammered bowl, $204, Altogether Home.
Handcrafted terra cotta tray, $74, Crate&Barrel.
