The empty office space that became our Group Chat podcast studio was the perfect blank slate for creative director Sun Ngo. “We wanted to build a dedicated podcast set for Group Chat that feels welcoming, lived-in and camera-ready for recurring recordings,” says Sun.

The first step? Browsing through the site of our official furniture sponsor, IKEA Canada. “Our readers love IKEA, and so do we,” says Group Chat podcast host (and Chatelaine editor-in-chief) Maureen Halushak. “We couldn’t have asked for a better partner in this project.”
“I wanted to create a warm, cozy and inviting atmosphere,” says Sun. “Like walking into a welcoming home where conversation flows naturally.” Her colour palette? Lots of dreamy pinks and sage greens, with birch accents.

Sun decided on two different sets for the studio: a kitchen table and a trio of comfy armchairs, then layered each set with cozy rugs, cushions, framed archival Chatelaine covers and some gorgeous bookshelves styled with sweet accents (including a framed photo of the Chatelaine team with one of Maureen’s dogs).
The end result is a space where the Chatelaine team loves to hang out—and that also feels incredibly welcoming to our podcast guests.

The centrepieces of the set are these sage green and wood shelving units. For a custom look, Sun wallpapered the glass doors with a soft pink-and-white patterned paper.

For a pop of colour on the main set, Sun chose these royal blue dining chairs.

A round dining table makes for more intimate conversation among guests.

This patterned rug brings a touch or warmth and colour to the set.

These modular sofa seats can be assembled together to form a full-length couch, or separated for individual seating.

We keep past issues of Chatelaine on this mid-century-inspired coffee table for our guests to read between recordings.

This chic oval table is big enough to fit the whole team and makes the perfect spot to go over each episode’s notes before taping.

These sleek dining chairs are just as pretty as they are comfortable.

For more casual conversations, Sun opted for these high-backed pink armchairs to emulate a cozy living room feel.

We have several of these cordless LED-powered lamps around the podcast studio—they’re cute and easy to move around.

Sun peppered the set with these cute light pink frames—showcasing masthead photos, new issue covers and archival Chatelaine magazines.

Team Chatelaine loves pets, and this adorable cat-shaped night light makes the perfect addition to our shelves.
