IUDs may be more than just contraception. A large review of over 20 years of studies suggests they may also help protect against cervical cancer. The research, which involved nearly 20,000 participants and spanned the globe, found using the devices reduced a woman’s risk of the disease by nearly 50 percent, possibly by boosting the body’s immune response.
