Red patent leather shoes

Glossy red heels from Payless, $27.

BABY NEEDS A NEW PAIR OF SHOES

It is my job to observe, to record, to edit, to write and sometimes, lucky for me, to shop. One of my latest clothing indulgences, however, was not for me, but to indulge my four-year-old daughter, Ava. We were headed to find her a party dress. And we were triumphant thanks to GapKids. A pretty little frock with many tiers of ruffles in the softest shade of gold satin. It was perfect for her. And the shoes? Red patent leather flats with cream-coloured bows (also from GapKids).

Ava was transfixed by those shoes and wore them every chance she got in the week leading up to the party for which they were intended. Her passion has not faltered. How great they look with her little black leggings, with her jeans, and of course, with that gilded little gown.

The thing is, they are such fantastic shoes that they've inspired me. And since I consider red a neutral when it comes to accessorizing ' it really does work with so many colours and patterns ' a pair of crimson heels seems even more justifiable.

Imagine my surprise when I saw these in the window at Payless this Saturday morning for $27. Don't know yet if they have my size, but when I can grab a moment I'm going to duck out and try them on.
