Drugstore beauty

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara, $14.

If you think natural-looking mascara falls under the "why bother’" category, this is for you. The comb applicator (that’s in the shape of a butterfly wing) creates amazing volume and definition from root to tip.

Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub, $16.

Much like a hydrating mask after a long flight, a good facial exfoliation is a satisfying step in my skincare routine. This scrub is ideal for combination skin. It has the consistency of baking soda (hence the name), but when mixed with water it foams like a cleanser. Use two to three times a week.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel cream with SPF 15, $25.

For anyone who can’t stand heavy creams but desperately needs deep hydration, this ultra lightweight gel formula is worth trying. Absorbing completely into the skin (especially good if you’re wearing makeup on top), the key ingredient is the hyaluronic acid that acts like a sponge allowing your skin to hold on to moisture.

Burt’s Bees lipstick, $10.

With growing attention on beauty product ingredients, natural personal care brand Burt’s Bees has launched its first collection of 100% natural lipsticks. Packed with moisturizing ingredients like raspberry seed oil and vitamin E, my personal favourite is the deep red shade Scarlet Soaked.

Clairol's CC + Colorseal Conditioner, $6.

Instead of diligently rationing the conditioner from your box of colour — you know the one that transforms your hair into silky goddess locks — Clairol is finally selling the uber-hydrating conditioner separately. Available in three formulas designed to suit your hair colour (but deposits no actual tint). Use once a week.
