Natural glow

Get a natural tanned look with makeup and no sun damage
By Lisa Tant
Glow all over

Streaky gels, orange bronzers—no thanks. We asked Eddie Maleterre, Canadian makeup artist for L'Oréal Paris Canada, how to get the most natural bronzed look with makeup.

Always exfoliate skin first to get a smooth streak-free finish. On your face, try L'Oréal Paris Pure Zone Unclogging Scrub Cleanser, 200 mL/$13. On your body, try Saltspring Soapworks Mango Tango Sugar Scrub, 280 g/$18.

Pick the right shade—it should be no more than two shades darker than your natural complexion. Test it on your jawline.

Blend gels with your fingers and sweep on powders with a large fluffy brush. The brushes in a compact are too small to give a smooth even finish.

Start with a light dusting of powder or layer of gel on your cheekbones. It's easier to intensify it by adding more but harder to soften what's already there.

Blend bronzers where the sun kisses you—on your forehead, down your nose, on your cheekbones and on your chin. A natural tan isn't an even overall colour.

Apply bronzer by a window to achieve a true daytime look. Artificial light distorts colours.
