1. Look for a shimmery cocktail dress
Special evening on your calendar? Swap your LBD for something with a little more star power. A strappy slip dress covered with monochromatic sequins is just as sophisticated (and way more fun).

2. Look for a tuxedo jacket

3. Look for a slimming pencil skirt

Holiday hair tip: Before you style, start with a texturizing spray to get a tousled, voluminous look.
5. Look for navy for night
Holiday dressing doesn’t have to be stressful. Keep it simple and go for comfortable classics with interesting embellishments.

6. Look for knits that sparkle

Beauty note: If you’re going for a statement lip, line your eyes with black liquid liner and finish with a couple of coats of mascara. Take the look up a notch with false lashes — they’re easier than you think.
Holiday hair tip: Instant party do? Sweep your hair back into a messy bun and fasten with bobby pins. Throw on a sparkly headband.
7. Look for sequins and beads
These days black tie doesn’t mean you have to wear (or invest in) a gown. Instead, choose dazzling pieces that work well with everything in your closet. Case in point: This flowy shirt also looks killer with a pair of jeans.

Holiday hair tip: If you’re going for an updo, wash your hair the night before. Squeaky-clean hair is harder to control.
8. Look for a pastel coat
