For the scoop on spring's coolest looks, our editor-in-chief, Jane Francisco, went backstage with Calvin Klein's creative director, Kevin Carrigan.

1. Sport a hot hue

"Colour is the number-one trend. Colour blocking will continue, but you can also wear bright shades in accessories, layered pieces, outerwear or head to toe. It makes women feel happy."

2. Play with shape

"Keep your clothes neat at the shoulder, then lean and pencil-like to the floor, with definition at the waist. I like a fabulous metallic belt. Or create feminine fluidity with crystal pleating - narrow, sharply pressed pleats that give lots of movement."

3. Show off your form

"There's a certain glamour and sexiness in defining a part of your body. I love the shoulders, the back and the collarbone. To show them off I add metal details on the halter neck of a dress."

4. Go wild for prints

"Prints are more multicolored than ever. Invest in one piece, like a dress, so that you can work the trend without having to match the pattern with another. Then tie it in with shoes that are either neutral or a pop of colour."
