Be on red alert Forget dressing for the job you want, how about dressing for the date you want. If entertainment and passion are on your date night agenda, invoke the power of red. Red is strong, sexy and sassy, and will always wow. You can do a little, like a red lip, red nails or red high heels. Or you can do a lot, like a fabulous scarlet frock. With the right fit, there isn’t a woman alive who can’t wear the heck out of a red dress. Keep accessories minimal, the colour is the main message.

Try: One-shoulder dress, Le Chateau, $110.

It’s elegant and refined, but with a peek-a-boo element that makes it undeniably alluring. This romantic fabric looks modern thanks to slouchy shapes or an oversize scale. Choose simple gold jewelry, it’s the best way to play up the sweet side of lace.

There’s none of the hassle of waiting among the masses, and all of the benefit of hanging out with your special someone. It can be especially fun if underneath you’re sporting some serious lingerie. Don’t underestimate the power of a brand new bra and underwear set to raise your spirits, as well as his eyebrows. Check out a glow in the dark set for some truly illuminating boudoir fun. The only rule of a date night outfit is that it must enhance your sexiest part: your self-confidence.

Try: Glow in the Dark bra, $45, and bikini bottoms, $25, La Vie En Rose.

Aim high A brand new head to toe look isn’t mandatory, but new accessories can rejuvenate your night out uniform. Heels undoubtedly pack the most stylish punch while putting ladylike swagger in your step. The hottest ones display colour blocked bold hues that look equally chic with a LBD or a smoking pair of jeans.

Try: Patent heels, Winners, $50. Easy does it Hair and makeup can be the finishing touches that put your look over the top, but you shouldn’t shellac and coif yourself so completely that you’re unrecognizable. The best date night looks balance something exceptional with something easy. Think a dress that hugs your curves and undone waves, or a sultry smokey eye and a simple striped t-shirt. An air of effortlessness, even if it takes more than five minutes to create, goes a long way. Cost: nothing. Outcome: priceless.
