We sat down with top stylist, Tony Masciangelo from The Alcorn salon in Toronto for a lesson on taming the frizzies.

Here are his top five tips for landing a luscious set of frizz-free locks:

1. Timing is everything
Shampoo your hair as soon as you step into the shower. Rinse with warm water and apply a frizz-controlling conditioner. The heat from the shower and from you hair will help open up the cuticle and allow the conditioner to work its magic.

2. Get cozy with a comb
While in the shower, use a wide-tooth comb to brush out the conditioner. This activates the product and allows it to penetrate the hair follicle.

3. Lend a hand
Once you have stepped out of the shower, be sure your hair is fully detangled. If not, skip the brush (which can promote frizz) and run your fingers through your hair to catch any lingering knots.

4. Practice the art of blotting
Towel dry your hair in a blotting fashion - press rather than rub. Working section by section, scrunch the towel throughout your hair until all excess water is absorbed. Avoid rubbing or wrapping your hair up in the towel as it can activate frizz.

5.  Blow-by-blow

For a curly finish
Twist the back of your hair into a ponytail and apply a leave-in treatment. Start at the ends and stop where the twist naturally finishes (approx the top of the neck). Blow dry your hair using the diffuser attachment. For best results and increased volume, tilt your head upside down during the drying period.

For a sleek and straight finish
Twist the back of your hair into a ponytail and apply a leave-in treatment from the ends to where the twist naturally finishes (approx. the top of the neck). Using a round brush with a ceramic core, blow-dry the hair, section by section, lifting each piece up and over your head as you dry. The ceramic core brush intensifies the heat which in turn helps smooth out the hair while the over-the-head drying technique adds additional body that leaves you with a voluminous, frizz-free finish.
