Small in stature? Don't just size down or settle for a cropped pant. Here, 5 top tips on finding clothes that actually fit.

Do: Embrace mid-and-high-rise pants. A heightened waistline elongates the leg for a long and lean shape.

Do: Pay attention to shoulder proportion. Bell sleeves are everywhere. But you don’t need height to pull off this trend. According to Blane, a proper fit in the shoulders is the key to wearing tops of any style.

Do: Mix and match. Be sure to balance items like a wide-leg crop pant with a more fitted top.

Do: Wear flats (or any kind of shoes you want). 'You do not have to live in heels', says Blane, but be sure to hem (not roll) your pants just above the ankle for the most streamlined silhouette.

Do: Make friends with a tailor. Not all stores carry petite sizing, but with a quick nip, tuck or shorten, a good alternationist can work frame-flattering magic.
