Add prep to your step

Hair how-to: Start by working a texturizing spray or mousse into damp hair. Blow-dry with a diffuser and rough up your hair with your fingers to encourage the natural texture. If you want more wave, curl random pieces with a curling iron. Finish with a medium-hold hairspray.

Put a glam spin on simple pieces

What’s the one thing most style icons have in common? Understated elegance. Here’s a good example: These two-toned pointed slip-ons add just the right amount of embellishment to these billowy pants.

Rethink an LBD

Just as sexy as heels, a pretty pair of strappy flats looks great matched up with a short cocktail dress. Bonus: You’ll never suffer on the dance floor again.

Hair how-to This style is all about a good cut and a flat iron. Protect your hair from styling by smoothing a heat serum onto damp hair, avoiding the roots. Blow-dry with a flat brush, then take small sections and straighten ends with a flat iron. Finish the look with a shine-enhancing spray.

Try on a little glitter

Dressy skirts, luxe sweatshirts and bejewelled sandals are three of our favourite finds of the season — and when you combine them all together, the look is super modern with just the right amount of cool factor.

Top, $118, J.Crew. Skirt, price upon request, Mulberry. Shoes, $150, Winners. Essie nail polish in Penny Talk, $10.
