Nineties nostalgia is a force to be reckoned with right now. From Love Story’s tribute to the blonde minimalism of the late Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy to the barrel denim trend, there’s a lot of love for ’90s style going around.
With the revival in full swing online, the timing couldn’t be better for mall-era staple and vintage-hunter’s fave find, Danier Leather, to pitch its style comeback with a modern collection of updated leather outerwear and a determinedly upscale push into the highly competitive handbag market.
It’s been a long road for the Canadian company, which was founded in Toronto in 1972, and back in its heyday was well-known for its cheeky ads and “Feel The Difference” tagline.
In 2016, the company filed for bankruptcy. But with liquidation came new life: under new ownership, the retailer quickly relaunched itself as Danier that same year. The brand’s purview expanded, too. While leather outerwear is still the core of the brand, Danier has incorporated high-quality knitwear and wool as well as leather handbags and accessories into its mix.
It’s been a 10-year rebuild that’s seen the retailer re-emerge as both a physical and online presence—Danier now counts 18 stores throughout Canada, including two recent openings at The CORE in Calgary and Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga, Ont.
Here are three of the retailer’s most covetable finds.

This chic woven satchel is a top seller—and we’re not surprised. The artisanal statement bag comes in two sizes, and the detachable strap with silver hardware means it can be worn as a cross-body for everyday ease, too.

The biker jacket may be an icon of the brand, but this tailored update on the classic double-breasted blazer is bringing workwear and eveningwear together in a decidedly grown-up way.

Spring is trench season, and this cotton-twill mini with its funnel neck and an oversized silhouette is the ideal water-repellent wrap.
