Beauty Shopper: Olay Eye Reading

What: An invitation for an Olay Eye Reading with Dr. Sandy Skotnicki-Grant
When: February 27, 2004
Where: Chatelaine's Offices, Toronto, Ont.
Why: To learn how to treat and prevent future lines around my eyes

The analysis
Dr. Skotnicki-Grant handed me a mirror and asked me to take a good look at the area surrounding my eyes. As my tired, aging peepers looked back at me, I thought: what can she tell me that I don't already know?

To get an in-depth examination, the skin around my eyes was studied in three sections. In the area beside my eyes, we measured the depth of my wrinkles, fine lines and crow's feet. We then looked to see how much my eyelids sag (not too much, in my case). Finally we took a closer look at my under-eye puffiness.

The diagnosis
After my analysis, Dr. Skotnicki-Grant determined that I am a "busy beauty." In other words, I have an active lifestyle, I am frequently exposed to the elements and I enjoy smiling and laughing. After the diagnosis, Dr. Skotnicki-Grant gave me some great tips to prevent the visible signs of aging around my eyes.

The tips

· Stay out of direct sun and always wear a sunscreen when going outdoors.
· Wear sunglasses to avoid squinting.

· Get plenty of rest.
· Don't smoke and avoid second-hand smoke.

· Drink lots of water.

Product prescription
Olay recommends that a busy beauty try its Olay Total Effects Eye Transforming Cream, $28. It contains vita-niacin (vitamin B3, B5 and vitamin E), aloe vera and cucumber extract. These ingredients help hydrate skin and improve its appearance. This cream has a slight shimmer to it, which makes the area around the eyes look instantly younger.
