Fashion Week Show #1 - VAWK

If you ever watched Project Runway Canada, you surely noticed a lovely designer named Sunny Fong. He had a great disposition, beautiful designs and was not surprisingly the winner of the second season. Last year, I had the opportunity to see him debut his final collection for Project Runway on the catwalk at Toronto Fashion Week and I wasn't disappointed.

His last collection was Grecian inspired, complete with Greek military hat hairstyles but this year the vibe was much more light and airy just like the space it was presented in. Fong showed his VAWK collection at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the designs were offset nicely by the warm wood surroundings filled with natural light.

The collection had lots of leather pieces worked in with a gauzy overlay but in a pretty, not tacky way. Then there were some pleated dresses and creams mixed in with vibrant reds. There seemed to be a nature theme, as many of the designs in the collection had leaf-like cut-outs. Overall, the collection was wearable and yet unique and Sunny's character really seemed to shine through in his latest collection.

It's always nice to encourage a fellow Canadian and I think he's paid his dues. I also loved the gold and cream military style jacket and his ruched skirts which make me excited for spring to come.
