Ever get the feeling you need to switch things up when fall rolls around? We sure do. From a comfy pair of sneakers to a yogurt-making essential to cooling linen sheets for hot sleepers, here’s what our team bought and loved this month.

Supporo Fashion Compression Socks, $30

A pair of checkered black and white Supporo Fashion Compression Socks for an article about Chatelaine editors' best purchases for September 2024.

“I’m in peak marathon training right now, and after my 30K+ long runs it is a true pleasure to wear these non-prescription compression socks. They’re not a workout to pull on like some other brands I’ve tried, yet they still provide a decent level of support that I swear helps my legs feel less tired as I go about the rest of my day. I also love the cute patterns.” —Maureen Halushak, editor-in-chief

Yogourmet Original Yogurt Starter, $18 for 16 sachets

“I've learned so much from Brett Tryon, who writes environmental stories for us. Her piece about making your own yogurt inspired me, because my family of four goes through a lot of yogurt. Turns out, making it is pretty easy—you just need a heavy-bottomed pot, some milk, a thermometer and this starter. It's one of those things that's great when you're WFH, because it just requires a stir every so often then a bit of hands-off waiting. This starter yields a mild, delicious yogurt that's way better than anything you can buy (and also way cheaper).” —Gillian Grace, deputy editor

Avène Tolerance Hydra-10 Hydrating Cream, $35

“The change in seasons always gets to my skin—unsightly dry patches, allergic reactions to products I've been using for months, inflammation I can't seem to get under control. Whenever my skin starts acting up out of nowhere, this little tube of Avène cream comes to my rescue. It's made with just ten ingredients and fragrance-free, so it's about as gentle as it gets. It's soothing on my raw skin and I love the hygienic pump dispenser.” —Andréanne Dion, senior style and beauty editor

New Balance 574 Shoes, $120

“I have never been more grateful for a style trend than the recent proliferation of dad shoes—it’s cool to be comfortable! We love to see it! I picked up these New Balance 574s in a navy and grey colourway, and I can’t wait to wear them through the fall. They’re super supportive and lightweight, and they pair easily with jeans or trousers. Our art director also owns a pair in the reverse colourway—which means the Chatelaine dad shoe takeover is officially happening!”  —Erica Lenti, deputy editor, features

Silk & Snow Flax Linen Fitted Sheet and Pillowcases Set, $230 for queen size

A set of navy Silk & Snow linen sheets on white background for an article about Chatelaine editors' best purchases for September 2024.

“As a hot sleeper, finding the right sheets has always been a challenge, but the Silk & Snow Flax Linen Sheets have truly impressed me. This is my first experience with linen sheets, and I absolutely love them. They're made from 100 percent linen, with thicker threads and looser weave that allow for airflow and keep me cool at night.

When I first got them, the sheets had a crisp, scratchy texture, but they’ve become wonderfully soft after a few washes. The linen texture may not be for everyone, but if you appreciate a cooling feel, these sheets are worth the investment.

I also love that they're certified by Oeko-Tex, meaning that they’re produced without chemicals or dyes.” —Sun Ngo, creative director
