With wedding season approaching, we asked a makeup artist to share her most basic tips for perfecting your beauty look as you walk down the aisle.

Bride to be hair and makeup

1. Make your skin faux glow

Get any waxing, facials and tans at least 48 hours beforehand. This prevents any allergic reaction you may have. It's also best to go for a spray tan a couple of months before hand to see how dark you want to go.

If you have any tan lines, Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is truly amazing. It can be used anywhere on the body and stays put (which is essential with a white dress). Just make sure to let it dry well.

2. Avoid looking like a lobster

If you're having a destination or summer wedding, sunblock is a must. Redness can start to appear within minutes of being outside and don't forget to add some on your ears, neck and the tops of your feet. The best time to apply is 20 minutes before you go out so it has time to be absorbed (and put it on away from your dress to avoid any stains).

3. Tear-proof your whole face

When tears (and sweat) are involved, waterproof mascara and eyeliner are a must. I love Covergirl mascara because it lengthens, adds volume and stays on until you wash it off.

I also recommend M.A.C. Fluidline in Blacktrack. You can layer it on depending on how soft, or dark, of a look you want. You can also smudge it with a Q-Tip for a smoky eye.

4. Try DIY eyes

For an easy eye shadow look, I love the quad palettes by Clinique. The colours are gorgeous and come in various shades to suit every woman's skin tone. Each quad comes with application instructions if you don’t want to hire a makeup artist.

5. Don't forget about your hair

To hold your hairstyle in place all day long (and trust us, it's a long one), nothing works better than Climate Control Hairspray. It holds style and adds adds shine but can be brushed through if need be. Keep a bottle on hand even after your hair and makeup person has left for the day.
